It's giving autumn: five looks to create a cosy ambiance

Leaves crunching underfoot, a gentle breeze carrying the scent of woodsmoke, and the warm glow of candlelight through windows. Autumn's arrival always seems to awaken our nesting instincts, doesn't it?

Creating a cosy aesthetic isn't about following trends or changing your decor with the seasons. It's about choosing elements that speak to you, that make you want to curl up with a good book or linger over a cup of tea with friends.

With their rich textures and nuanced colours, our handmade wall tiles offer that perfect balance of timeless appeal and seasonal warmth, with character that you'll love every day — no matter the weather outside.

Today, we're sharing five looks that capture that coveted autumn aesthetic, showing how artisanal tiles can be used to transform your home into a cosy haven that never goes out of season.

Fall for vintage charm

This kitchen is a masterclass in timeless autumnal style. Raw brickwork, brass fixtures and timber worktops bring warmth and richness, while sage green cupboard doors add a fresh touch. It's a colour palette that truly captures the essence of the season.

At the heart of the space are our soft white Aged Crackle square tiles. We carefully craft the glaze of these to shatter in a controlled way as it cools, creating an organic network of fine cracks that have a beautiful delicacy, which we then enhance, staining each one by hand. Our customer has paired the tiles with our medium grey grout which really brings out the crackle pattern.

Dark slate flooring grounds the space. Whitby tiles from our Kielder collection offer the same timeless appeal of natural stone, but with the durability and easy maintenance of porcelain — perfect for busy kitchens.

Autumn in Paris

Imagine stepping into a cosy, quaint Parisian café one fresh October morning. That's the feeling our new Patisserie collection brings to your home, no passport required.

This collection of hand painted, patterned tiles is like a love letter to vintage French charm. It features three delicate patterns, each one lovingly brought to life by our artisans with smooth, swooping brushstrokes. Each pattern comes in a choice of five colourways that could have been plucked straight from an autumn painter's palette. There's a pretty Sage Green, an Earthy Rose, a classic Grey Blue, a Warm Umber brown and a nuanced Charcoal. Though these hues are wonderful on their own, they also play beautifully with colours from our Contemporary Classics collection.

In the kitchen above, the team at Neptune has paired tiles from our Patisserie collection in Charcoal with a tangerine coloured Everhot range cooker, charcoal toned cupboard doors and a warm toned vintage rug. Très chic.

And while these tiles are right at home in a kitchen (croissant, anyone?), don't be afraid to think outside the box. Picture them adorning a shower niche, or creating a stunning backdrop for a clawfoot tub. Wherever you place them, they'll bring a touch of Parisian romance to your space all year 'round.

Rustic retreat

Step into Harriet and Oli's home, and you'll feel like you've wandered into an autumnal daydream. Their clever use of our colour creates a rustic retreat that's both toasty and timeless.

Let's start in the kitchen, where handmade skinny brick tiles from our Kennet collection in Winterbourne steal the show, arranged vertically and paired with brass hardware. These handmade tiles in warm neutral tones add character, texture and depth.

On the floors, Harriet and Oli opted to use our York Flag tiles in our four-tile pattern mix. These classic stone-effect flagstones bring a timeless quality to the space, as though they've been there for generations. Durable and classic, they're ready for countless seasons of family gatherings and cosy evenings in.

Wander into the bathroom, and you'll find yourself surrounded by earthy forest tones. Soft green Willow and deeper Woodland wall tiles from our Ullswater collection create a soothing sanctuary that feels fresh season after season. These are beautifully complemented by terracotta-effect hexagon porcelain floor tiles in Granada from our Andalucia collection, which run through hallway and bathroom, adding a warm, grounding touch.

Harriet and Oil's home shows that with the right choice of tiles, you can create a rustic retreat that feels warm and inviting whether it's leaf-raking season or the height of summer.

Warm and inviting

If autumn had a signature colour, it might just be Field Mouse Brown from our Contemporary Classics collection. This beautifully warming tile, with its soft grey-brown hue and gentle pink undertones, seems to embody the season.

Available in bricks or squares, these tiles feature a gently undulating gloss surface with a crackle glaze. They catch and scatter light, bringing a warm glow to your space even on the dreariest of days.

Field Mouse Brown plays wonderfully with other autumn-inspired hues. Try pairing it with Farrow & Ball's Elephant's Breath for a sophisticated, seasonally-inspired look. Alternatively, you might choose Little Greene's Ashes of Roses, as in our kitchen above, which also features stone effect floor tiles Knave, from our Lacock collection.

A touch of the wild

Our hand painted Wilding collection brings the charm of British wildlife right into your home. It's like stepping into a crisp autumn forest, but without the chilly breeze!

Imagine a curious fox or a watchful owl keeping you company in your kitchen. Or perhaps a leaping hare bringing a touch of whimsy to your bathroom. This collection features nine playful creatures from the British countryside, each one lovingly painted by hand in Delft blue. We've set these untamed spirits against our rustic biscuit tile, finished with a crackle glaze that adds depth and character. It's a look that's both timeless and full of autumnal nostalgia.

Tiles from the Wilding collection pair beautifully with warm, earthy tones as well as darks like this navy blue kitchen.

Your year-round cosy retreat

So, there you have it — five ways our handmade tiles can help you capture that autumn magic, without the expiration date. Whether you're drawn to the rich, earthy tones of our the whimsical charm of our Wilding series, or the timeless elegance of our Contemporary Classics collection, there's an autumn-inspired look to suit every space and style.
